National Autonomous University of Mexico

To learn more about the University of Mexico campus I went through youtube and watched a view videos of students walking through the campus. This allowed me to see how the students walked throughout the spaces. One large transition areas that interests me is within the quad area.

As seen in the photo above the area in front of the library and the administration building is in a grid pattern, containing paths and green area. Throughout the videos and pictures I found many students sitting on these small areas of grass. The aspect of this space that I found interesting was the connection between this space and the large space of pavement, which then separates the grid from the open area of grass. This transition space is an important moment in which students use and circulate through the spaces in different ways.

Another transition space that I found interesting through map view was the transition area between each of the architecture buildings. The architecture school is set up in different buildings, to create separate schools within the architecture college. The transition space between these buildings is interesting because of the changes with materials. There is a covered walk way that separates the two green courtyards between the buildings. Further along this path there is a hardscape courtyard. It would be interesting to compare the separation of materials and the uses of the two types of courtyards. I also wonder how much this area is used, if the students are usually separated to their specific schools or if they collaborate between the different areas?
